Tucson Accepting Applications for Home Repair Funds via Lottery Based System

Homeowners within the city limits needing roof repairs, heating and cooling system replacements, and structural, utility or certain other repairs may apply for a grant and/or deferred loan ranging from $7,500 to $12,000.

Applications for the Fiscal Year 2012-2014 Tucson Annual Residential Rehabilitation (TARR) Program will be taken via a lottery system to ensure that everyone who submits an application during the timeframe will have an equal opportunity for placement on the list. The application period runs from Wednesday, May 16, 2012, through Saturday, June 30, 2012.

The applicant must be owner of the property and reside in it as their primary residence. Income limits apply and the property must be free of delinquent liens. All taxes, mortgage payments, and assessments must be current. The homeowner must NOT have received services through any City housing rehabilitation program since July 2, 2007.

Homeowners may submit the official Lottery Pre-Application Form online via the City of Tucson website at www.tucsonaz.gov/fixhouse. An electronic receipt will be immediately issued to the applicant. Those without computers or Internet access may visit a local branch of the Pima County Public Library.

The Lottery Pre-Application Form will also be accepted by mail or in person at the City’s Community Services Department, 310 N. Commerce Park Loop, Santa Rita Building, Tucson, Arizona, 85745 through 5 p.m., Friday, June 28, 2012. During the application period, call 837-5336 to receive an application by mail or pick one up at Community Services. No application packages will be mailed to homeowners after Friday, June 22, 2012.

Only one application per household may be submitted. All materials are also available in Spanish.

TARR is funded through the City’s allocation of Community Development Block Grants for FY 2011-2012. Where possible, the City leverages this money with other funding and private/homeowner contributions. Grants and loans to homeowners are subject to availability of funds. For more information, call the City’s Community Development Division at 837-5345.

Note to media: A detailed description of the program and a sample application will be faxed or emailed upon request. Call 837-5336.
