Effects of Exposure to Domestic Violence in Early Childhood

Presenter: Kathryn Streer Seidler, MSW, LCSW

Participants will learn the following learning objectives:
1. What is Domestic Violence? : definition, terminology, and behavioral characteristics
2. The “Continuum of Domestic Violence”
3. How many children witness DV nationally per year and the effects this has on the different age groups in early childhood
4. Why children in the prenatal period up to 36 months of age are uniquely at risk to living with domestic violence
5. How to identify children who may have been exposed to DV
6. The connection between DV and Child Abuse
7. The effect DV has on parenting when parents are both victims and perpetrators
8. Evidence based practices and their service based characteristics (including safety planning)
