It’s tax time again, and free help may be just around the corner!
More than 20 tax-help sites for low- to moderate-income taxpayers are opening in the next week across the metropolitan area. The sites, which offer free return preparation and in some cases free electronic filing, are part of the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, which is supported by the United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona, Catholic Community Services of Southern Arizona and site sponsors.
Free VITA services, provided by IRS-certified volunteers, are available to taxpayers with household incomes of $52,000 or less. The VITA sites file returns electronically for free.
