The Arizona House and Senate came to a compromise on a budget Monday night and it has now been sent onto the Governor for approval. In the compromise budget is $58.7 million for the newly created Department of Child Welfare and Family Services, much less than the Governor asked for (she asked for at least $80 million). Unfortunately, child care subsidy is not part of the compromise budget. What remains is an intent for lawmakers to revisit child protection (and the subsidy) when the Governor calls a special session in May (expected). We need to let the Governor know that childcare subsidy is important to us and that it is an important child abuse and neglect prevention measure.
Please communicate with the Governor’s Office at your earliest convenience. The message is this: We support funding for the Department of Child Welfare and Family Services that includes money for prevention – namely funding for childcare subsidy. Her contact info is below:
