Kernels for Change: Strategies to Help Families Change Behaviors

At this workshop, you will learn how evidence-based kernels can change the expression of genes related to health and wellbeing through a process called epigenetics. All of this is framed in the notion of human capacity to create nurturing environments.

You will learn about four types of evidence-based kernels:

  1. Reinforcement kernels that come after behavior to strengthen it.
  2. Antecedent kernels that set up behavior before it happens.
  3. Relational frame kernels that are ways of just using language to influence actions.
  4. Physiological kernels that are way to change behavior directly, but are not prescription medications.
