Emergent Literacy at Home: Strategies for Home Visitors

This is an interactive workshop focusing on meaningful and engaging ways to foster emergent literacy and language development at home and throughout the day.

Presenters will share strategies for supporting families in simple daily activities that promote:

  • Vocabulary development
  • Phonological awareness
  • Comprehension
  • Book handling skills
  • Alphabet knowledge,
  • Concepts of print

Participants will gain knowledge to help families recognize that preparing meals, grocery shopping, or driving in the car are all opportunities for language-rich interactions.

Participants will learn ways to empower families to share books with their children every day, regardless of their literacy level.
